Taiwan machine tool prices: the yen has given back five per cent since July, and what that does to two quotes on a Taxila desk

Taiwan's machine tool exports fell 4.6% in August, but the yen has strengthened 5.5% since TAMI wrote that the price gap under Japanese machines had vanished. On a US$89,271 machining centre that is US$4,500. Two dated predictions and three things to ask both builders.

Japan machine tool orders August 2026: 64.7% in yen, 51% in dollars, and the ten-month queue a Taxila lathe order joins

JMTBA's August preliminary prints ¥197,880m, up 64.7% on the softest base since February. The level is ¥180bn a month, 74% of it foreign, and a Pakistani order sits in a bucket marked Other. Why 9 October prints under 150, and why that will not be a slowdown.

Japan machine tool backlog at ¥1.009 trillion: 6.7 months of machines sold and unbuilt, and the three clauses to negotiate instead of the delivery date

JMTBA's July notes put the order backlog at ¥1,009bn against ¥150bn of monthly shipments: 6.7 months. The 28-32 weeks on page two of a Japanese quote is the national average. Working capital, escalation and options, and my call for the August final due around 1 October.

1,118 quotes from 456 Chinese CNC factories: aluminium draws 37 quotes, stainless draws six, and that is where a Taxila shop wins

Haizol's 60 live RFQs got a first quote in 0.95 hours, but a stainless part drew 6.1 quotes against 36.8 for aluminium, and only 27.9% of the factories hold IATF 16949. Quote stainless in three tiers inside the hour.
